@aral Decentralization is a good idea in general, because it limits single points of failure, but economies of scale do work better to transfer large quantities of data around. I think we need to figure out how to cooperate, rather than just avoiding it and having everyone keep to their small selves. A robust network will eliminate large scale operations where it can, because of the unaccountability, so making it easier for us to be small is good, but I don’t think that largeness is the problem.
The problem is we have no control of these big corporate conglomerates, but they have control of us. So I’m not saying we need to seize the means of production, but uh… taking action against their so-called “rights” to control us is more effective than allowing them those rights, playing by their rules, then trying to compete with them using our magnificent smallness.
