Anyone who buys into the “you don’t need to own anything, you can just rent everything” bullshit should come to Ireland and try renting a house sometime. I promise you’ll sober up real quick.
Who do you think perpetuates that bullshit? That’s right, the assholes who own everything and do all the renting out.
@aral Rent your video games, rent access to movies and music, rent your house, pay a monthly fee for everything, over and over, forever. Talk about being played for fools.
@aral it's precisely the rich folks that own everything the ones to say "why buy it when you can rent it"
I prefer to buy a movie (anonymously, with cash) and do with it what I want that "renting" a license from Google that forces a DRM in my machine, knows what I like it not to profit off it and will tell big bro.
@aral sharing of under-utilized resources will be an important behavioral adaptation towards #sustainability. many young people (in particular) will be attracted to the idea and this will be exploited ruthlessly, just like the "gig economy"
shared ownership is (one) answer and developing the infrastructure to do so easily and effectively seems like a noble cause
@aral I'd like to direct you to my toot on this matter.
@aral Come to Spain. Here everything is wrong, there are nazis in the congress, people is unemployed, some parts of the country want to be independent... but then you realize our vaccination rate is one of the bests in the world, the public health service is great, rents are not that high and people is just great.
@ekaitz_zarraga Sadly, our puppy is a huskamute so we really can’t live in warmer climes. Or else I’d consider Cyprus, for example :)
@aral Spain has different climates depending on the place. I live in the north and this is anything but warm. :)
@ekaitz_zarraga Mil perdones por estar jodiendo sin haber recibido invitación a hacerlo, pero "people" es plural, "people are great".
@JordiGH A los demás no sé, pero a mí me pasa continuamente, sobre todo en inglés. A veces releo lo que he escrito y es un facepalm absoluto. :D
@aral it really does depend where you are : ) Im in Istanbul and the return-to-cost ratios here for residential is like over 30 years... No possible way for me to buy a house, and if i do, with the risk score of the country, i wouldnt want to keep ownership for too long : )
Every month, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ Paramount+ (Am I forgetting any?) take some of my parents money.
I'm really 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 monthly charges now. There's something that seems 𝓭𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓸𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓽 about it.
It's almost like the business is saying, "Oh you make this much money every month? Okay. We will take this much of your money every month. We would like to charge you as much as possible so we can live off of you, thanks."
Even our own personality is now a form of currency for surveillance capitalists. What aspect of life now does NOT have to do with money in the era of facebook, google and amazon?
I am dedicated on staying on a strict diet of fediverse.
