Mark Zuckerberg and team consider shutting down Facebook and Instagram in Europe if Meta can not process Europeans’ data on US servers

2022 is really starting to look up!

By the way, this is Facebook’s actual threat – “we will take away these jobs”:

Time for Ireland and the EU to decide whether they want to live as Facebook’s bitch or not.

We can do so much better than Silicon Valley’s exploitative and greedy corporate model. We can do so much better than being the raw materials for Big Tech. In fact, our future as people, not property, depends on it.

Dear EU,

When I spoke at the parliament a few years ago, I told you how we could chart a different course forward to put ownership and control of our digital selves into our own hands and unshackle us from Silicon Valley.

Are you ready to listen now?

@aral and all across the European nations they were dancing in the streets

Ha! The stick and the carrot. 🌿🥕

@aral 10 000 jobs across Europe? Come on Mark, there's like 300 *millions* of us. Up the ante or get out

@aral I hecking hate that jobs are always good in this system, just jobs for the sake of jobs; it's better to have destructive shitjobs that make the world a worse place, than to not have jobs and do no harm.

@aral lol. "we will create 10,000 jobs if you let us break European law"? criminals.

>“we will take away these jobs”

Heh, Idk, but guess losing the 3rd biggest market per GDP ain't cheap either.

@aral "take away" or just "not create"? if it's the latter then there is even less merit to their threat.

@aral wait holdup, I must put in asterisks since there’s no sources actually backing up the information

the article claims it was all “according to various media reports, including in iTWire, The Guardian newspaper and Side Line Magazine.“

iTWire has this to say, but I never heard of it before and there’s no link to the SEC document

nothing on The Guardian from what I can tell

“Side Line Magazine” I also never heard of, doesn’t seem tech-oriented, and it’s more of a self-interview than anything else

@aral ah, found it nevermind

“If a new transatlantic data transfer framework is not adopted and we are unable to continue to rely on SCCs or rely upon other alternative means of data transfers from Europe to the United States, we will likely be unable to offer a number of our most significant products and services, including Facebook and Instagram, in Europe“

why can’t people just, link to the source though?

after invalidation of privacy shield and other similar stuff. i can't wait for Europe to kick out Facebook and its chidren data suckers out of here

@aral Then, our progressive friends, after have been told so many times that they should care about digital freedom , they are going to start shouting "censorship!!!" because they will lose their favorite platform and they will eventually reach out to us to guide them to VPN and stuff like that to get access to their beloved platform for "activism".

@aral 👏🏽 😍 🥳 🍻
cheers to that!

@aral farewell Suckerberg have fun during future auditions at the US Congress. Coz ya know, there will probably be some more.

@aral That would be progress and finally compliance with laws and regulations.

@aral this is excellent news. Let’s hope they fuck off forever.

there will nothing happen, this is all fast living newspaper bloat...

until today no big tech company ever paid a penalty fee...

goverments are depenent on big tech, all politics use proprietary solutions... nothing will change.

@aral If Meta wants to leave Europe, is should leave. We have our own souvereignity und our laws.
But I fear that our (often) weak politicans break their own laws to keep Meta Europe.
In this case we have to go to court. Thats my opinion.
