"Mozilla is saving us, y’all! *phew*"
Not sure about that one, after reading the first sentence.
"Advertising provides critical support for the Web"
sounds more like their interests are on the side of marketing. What about asking the Q would the web really be worse off without advertising?
Do you believe that Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau thought about marketing when they started out? Companies like Meta, Google etc have simply hijacked the web, and now want to set the standards.
@aral@mastodon.ar.al "For the last few months we have been working with a team from Meta (formerly Facebook) on a new proposal that aims to enable conversion measurement – or attribution – for advertising called Interoperable Private Attribution, or IPA."
Anyone but Facebook!!!
I guess it's not really surprising. Mozilla is not against supporting big tech. I'm not sure if this was always the case (maybe it was?) But working with Facebook to do privacy-respecting ad effectiveness measurement just doesn't seem right.
