The Atem Mini Pro is an amazing device but:

1. They don’t support Linux (thank goodness @martijnbraam made OpenSwitcher – openswitcher.org/ – which does).

2. The dumbest thing about it is that it has just one quality setting for both live streaming and for recording. And while the quality is perfectly fine for streaming, it is unusable for local recordings. And that’s the default. By default you get unusable, pixelated recordings.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@martijnbraam @aral I have one as well, and I am curious, what quality are you getting? I don't know a lot about it, so I am trying to learn. My understanding was that the level was set by the quality of the input on the first HDMI channel. Also, thank you for the Open Switcher link! I've been annoyed with the lack of Linux support as well!

@levi @aral Resolution and framerate is set to the format that's send to the first hdmi input by default, but you can lock the format to one in the configuration software instead of letting it autodetect. The stream quality is also a seperate setting that sets the h264 video bitrate.

The Mini Pro has a single h264 encoder so for recording and streaming the same bitrate is used. Would be cool if you could use it seperately on the Pro ISO that has more encoders but that doesn't seem to be possibl

@aral @martijnbraam I started my professional career almost 30 years ago as video editor and TV studio engineer. The functionality, price, and form factor of the ATEM Mini are unbelievable and it blows my mind what evolution this technology has made.

@frankdelporte @martijnbraam Tell me about it. I never worked in the industry but I studied it long enough and while I never experienced the mainframe to personal computer revolution, this is basically that for live mixing compared to the roomful of equipment we used to have that was lower quality and goodness knows how many times more expensive :)

@aral
1. Awesome, did not know about this!
2. If you don't have the ISO model I suppose you don't record to external media as a Davinci project. So, you might as well connect the Atem to a laptop via USB and record the stream in OBS at whatever quality you wish?
