The hardest part of decentralisation is to decentre yourself.

@aral Every time I decentre myself, I fall over 🙂

@aral I tried and developed a speed wobble at 3kph

@aral
I think a more precise way to express this is:
"[...] to decentralize our perception from ourselves" because it's a perception issue and that can be (re-)trained and "fixed" over time and with a lot of self-awareness and scrutiny about our own behavior and its consequences (minus the perception [bias] of others, if we know or can sufficiently probable anticipate it).

In the end, the complexity and different levels of perception and association/comparison (with) (/) experience are factors

@aral
And all this complexity in human interaction also makes it fairly impossible to truly understand each other, unless we have enough information about our conversation partners' background to "get them".
Because speaking the same language isn't sufficient for connection yet. We need to know what the other means when they use words as they do and vice-versa.
And there arise a lot of conflicts from ignoring this.
Plus the bias of expecting the worst-possible stuff from adults vs. best in kids

@aral In the spirit of decentralisation, I've just posted a suggestion to Mastodon gGmbH that they democratise the process of picking the Mastodon Convent approved server list.

GitHubSuggestion to democratise the Server Covenant list · Issue #344 · mastodon/joinmastodonBy mattcoxonline

@aral
I always thought this was the easiest part. Then again, most people are tied to their (online) identity, their group, their brand of slacktivism. I can imagine that decentring oneself in a constantly changing landscape of the fediverse is hard if you are doing this for the first time. :-)

At some point we'll get there.
