Glad to hear Apple has killed its plans to implement privacy-destroying on-device scan and snitch into its devices (although it will make autocrats like Erdoğan unhappy to hear it because they likely had plans for it).

Here’s what I wrote about it at the time:
Remember that end-to-end encryption is moot if the ends are already compromised.
@aral I don’t suppose there’s any chance this means better blocker makes a comeback?
@mez Sadly, no.
It was always going to be a stopgap. All my energy is going into building the Small Web. That’s a real alternative instead of a bandaid.
There must have been a huge shift in apple policies if they are also embracing right to repair and making things easier to fix.
@aral This quote from Apple response is also carefully weighed :
"Scanning systems are also not foolproof and there is documented evidence from other platforms that innocent parties have been swept into dystopian dragnets that have made them victims when they have done nothing more than share perfectly normal and appropriate pictures of their babies."
@aral
Only having ten followers at most was what staggered me.
To be clear, it should not matter what the number of followers was, but hearing the number be so low is an even graver chill.
