"You revisionist historians are trying to revise all the places we specifically deleted those from our history . . ."

@aral fine. I agree. However - not today man please have some respect.

@donlamb_1 I do have respect. For *everyone* affected on that list.

@aral as a POC, I agree with the underlying message, but to forget will erase, and if we erase the past, the same mistakes are bound to be repeated in the future.

When you screw something up, you won't know you made the mistake until someone or something points it out, and that's not something you forget. The same principle applies to violence. Let's educate ourselves, lest we forget and repeat.

@bkryer bro, how’s it hanging? catch the game last night?

@aral

My man, what you imply is worthy. Memory is identity for each of us, and culture for all of us. But dude, how many colloquial monikers do we need to teach 'em a lesson?

History is replete with despots yearning to control other people's actions and thoughts for all the obvious reasons.
Let's resist this, especially in ourselves.

Fantasies of supremacy, imperialist war disguised as parades, bigotry, segregation, slavery, colonialism—all popular modes of shitty human behavior. I assure you they are in no danger of being forgotten. Folks are still really pissed off about that last thing (fill in the blank here).

What is forgotten is this. Thought cancer can get anyone. So instead of reminding us how smart you are for remembering all this other stuff and how dumb we are for not going out of our way to also think about all those other horrors on the anniversary of one particular one, how about instead consider if your snarking helped?

@aral @anarchopunk_girl On the anniversary of this brazen attack on American democracy, we should remember the reign of terror that it unleashed. We should also reflect on the fact that their foreign backers never were held responsible, and indeed have continued to wield their influence globally throughout the 50 years since Pinochet's coup.
