I’m seriously considering buying a bunch of Bluetooth earphones and gifting them to anyone I see blaring a video or game or music in a quiet public place from their phone.
What do you think, shall we crowdfund it for the sanity of us all?
@aral yes WHY DO THEY DO THIS?
@aral you have no idea how much it insenses me when people listen to calls on speaker phone in public, even my own dad does it. Where as I carry wired earbuds and adapters to move between my iPod classic and cell phone.
@aral Omg yes please
@aral I'd be interested in the result. Will they accept them? Will they actually use them?!
@JohannaMakesGames @aral My guess is they will act like you're the jackass for listening to their conversation (even though it is impossible not to)
@aral I don't know how people can do it. Once, when I unplugged my phone headphones, music kept playing for about 2 seconds afterwards. I looked around, very concerned that my oversight would lead to much pointing, head shaking, and tutting.
@aral or a Flipper Zero and start screwing with them (surely their Bluetooth is on).
@Sh4d0w_H34rt @aral That might teach them a lesson Good idea
@aral In theory I love the idea.
Unfortunately it will only work on people who either don't know or don't care that they're irritating others.
There's also a substantial pool of people in this world who intentionally seek the attention that they draw to themselves by being annoying
@aral Using loudspeaker in public is indeed smart device illiteracy Wondering if these people would manage to use Bluetooth headphones even if received for free
@aral sometimes I'm tempted to join in their conversations, or comment on what they're watching in the style of a chatty boring person
@aral Same folks who blast their car stereo so they can hear it while they're inside the gas station, I would guess. Lost cause.
@aral
Yes please, let's do this!
Also for the sanity of wild animals; Sometimes we found people in the middle of the woods, on climbing areas, listening loud music with phones and even with speakers.
@aral usually I'm against rewarding bad behaviour. maybe just carry a spray bottle filled with water and use that instead?
@aral Pssst.... I've tried similar tactics and the offender usually doesn't even take the hint!!!
@8tpercent A bit harsh :)
@8tpercent @aral Not a new problem!
@aral
I’ve seen people walk into a crowded elevator and continue a loud phone conversation on speakerphone.
