Hey folks, just a quick heads up that the fundraiser for the Ugandan #LGBTQ+ refugees in #Kakuma camp in #Kenya that I shared then quickly deleted was apparently a scam.
Thank you to those who alerted me and to the instance they were on for looking into it and suspending the account also.
They apparently hit reddit too.

It’s so sad that people do this stuff because there really are people out there in this situation who need help.
@aral ah crap, I shared that one around.
@Huubje It should be removed now that the account is suspended (and I deleted my post very quickly so hopefully no one fell for it).
@aral Those scams were rife on Reddit a year or two ago. They'd come by r/@ all the time and we'd do our best to dig in enough to find what was legit and what wasn't. Eventually, IIRC we opted to just have a weekly "Mutual Aid" thread that we included in the description that people would have to vet their own causes.
