So according to this guy, I’m antisemitic and a Holocaust denier.
- Am I antisemitic? No.
- Do I deny the Holocaust? No.
So what do I do that’s so terrible that I’m apparently blocked from whatever it is this guy runs?
Oh, yes, I oppose Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.

(By the way, if you’re looking for people to block who support Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people, that’s a good thread to browse.)
@aral The fact I had to leave my client and open that post in the browser (so not logged in) to see the replies tells me all I need to know.
His handle (tante) means "aunt" in Dutch. If he's Dutch - just yet another blemish on my nation. We've been collecting a lot of those lately.
He's not Dutch, but German (if that wasn't already clear from the context): https://tante.cc/about/

Don't take it too seriously, Germans gonna german. There was this good text a couple of days ago on that topic: https://www.dissentmagazine.org/online_articles/zionism-uber-alles/
@aral seeing you and tante have a fight is not unlike seeing Celtic fans vs. St Pauli fans ️ (nb - I follow both of you for your tech content). The German left has an issue understanding and criticizing Israel. Similar weirdness going on with the Fusion Festival, if that means anything to you.
I don't wanna say more about this, I think that toots are not the right format to have a discussion about the topic. But I wanted to say this, in case it's something you haven't been made aware of.
@benjaoming I don’t even know what Fusion Festival is. Is it something I should look up?
@aral it's a huge political music festival where the otherwise most progressive German left and anarchists gather every year. They seem very troubled with the divide in the German left, and as a result they are discouraging solidarity with Palestine and suppressing notions of Israeli brutalities and history of occupation and apartheid in their communication.
There's a whole term for this btw:
"they are basically discouraging showing solidarity with Palestine and suppressing any notion of Israeli brutalities and history of occupation and apartheid in their communication."
Wow, could you please expand a little on this, if possible? Thanks!
@yassin @aral I base it on reading their newsletter, which is also in English. I'm not sure if they have published it or consider it for the followers of their list. It was a very long text that I would have expected a lot more balance from, especially knowing the competence that the festival would otherwise have in doing a political analysis.
You are welcome to disagree with my assessment, I'm not going into a discussion.
No disagreement, I am honestly interested in what they are saying. Haven't heard about this yet, so if you wanna share their original communications I'd be grateful :)
@yassin here is the link that @aral found: https://www.fusion-festival.de/en/x/news/news-detail/newsletter-februar-2024
I edited a previous toot that contained too much opinion, especially considering that I had said "I don't want to discuss it", then it's dumb of me to share additional opinionated statements.
When I said it, it's because I consider the well-meaning of people in overlapping communities are at risk. At the same time, the genocide should NEVER be silenced. Sticking to 100% feel-good tech criticism or whatever is not enough for me.
@benjaoming Just read their February newsletter and it doesn’t look like they’re avoiding the subject or criticism of Israel. Also, I agree with their point about not tolerating glorification of Hamas.

@aral It's good that you read it that way. I would love to discuss this, but as I have already made bad choices in the previous toot. I have to admit that I'm unable to formulate my understanding of the German left in toots, I need to actually learn from someone who has more context.
On the subject matter, I think that you have experienced tante wrongly calling you out on antisemitism w/ acts of hostility (i.e. a call to unfollow you and what I think is a rhetorical belittlement of your work).
