“I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.”

@kibcol1049 I don’t know who needs to hear this but we already have washing machines and dishwashers and they don’t need AI to work.
@aral Why do you need an intelligent dishwasher? @kibcol1049
@BackFromTheDud @kibcol1049 And, more to the point, you can have an intelligent dishwasher without AI. It’s called good design ;)
@aral @BackFromTheDud @kibcol1049
No you can't. By definition, an intelligent dishwasher is one with artificial intelligence...no matter how primitive.
You can have an intelligent dishwasher without LLMs. Simple speech/gesture recognition would improve the usability for the handicapped but voice recognition of simple commands needs the internet or a hell of a lot of memory.
I run several AI tasks on a RP2040 including gesture recognition.
@Ralph058 @BackFromTheDud @kibcol1049 Intelligent !== artificial intelligence
An “intelligent” washing machine, for example, might have separate drawers for different types of clothes that need to be washed differently and wash them separately, using optimal temperature, duration, amount of detergent and softener, etc., All this can be pre-programmed into it. No AI necessary. And still, intelligent. i.e., well-designed
