It’s quite sad that

a) we have a default Mastodon instance
b) the default Mastodon instance is pro-genocide

@aral Your claim was

> b) the default Mastodon instance is pro-genocide

The 2) link you posted has no such content or hint of it (only vague accusations that some moderators might have done something without any details) Instead you block people for asking honest question, and refuse to give a straight answer.

mastodon.social might have problems, but labeling a whole group in this manner is the same thing that Netanyahu is doing; do better.

I'm one of the people that Mastodon-social has removed posts for speaking out against the genocide.

There are many other cases too.

I'm sorry I'm not aware of a database of such instances, but if you've been here following the issues, you will have seen for yourself.

Mastodon-social in particular is badly behaved on this, and people tell me it is because it is a German instance or the admin are German and Germany has a particularly irrational stance on genocide.

@rzeta0 And so have I. My posts have not been removed. One post removed is not the same as a whole site being for something.

@aral @douwe

@amszmidt @rzeta0 @aral @douwe

The people on the site are not the site, the site is the owner of the instance and its moderators

The people on the site are the people that produce the free content

It's like left-wing people living in Texas

I don't think anyone's dissing Mastodon.social people with the exception of that they are low information enough to be on a bad instance

I wish I had known earlier I wouldn't have lost a 6-year-old account because of their bigotry

@rzeta0 @amszmidt @aral @douwe just fyi those of us not on .social aren't really seeing this as our instances aren't doing it, so thank you for actually explaining what's going on, I had no idea if there were some explicit posts from the admins (like what happened on fosstodon) or what. I've long said the "join" page should be round-robining through a large list of known long uptime servers and individual instances should be capped at a few thousand users, this is just one more reason why.

@amszmidt @aral @douwe

"labeling a whole group in this manner is the same thing that Netanyahu is doing"

Congratulations, you have said the stupidest fucking thing on the Internet. "Protesting genocide is the same thing as committing one" is some deeply liberal brain-wormed shit.

@blueemu Still no evidence that mastodon.social is pro-genocide only ad hominem attack and insults. *plonk*

@aral @douwe

@amszmidt

Germanies stance on Israel is clearly highly troubled and there is no other place (apart from Israel and the US maybe) where antisemitism and critique of Israel get so structurally mixed up (on purpose).

@andypiper Why wouldn't Mastodon consider moving away from Germany for this purpose? And are there statts on how many israeli/gaza related toots have been removed?

@blueemu @aral @rzeta0

@douwe @amszmidt @andypiper @blueemu @aral

Given the almost 2 years of behavior we've seen from mastodon-social admins I don't trust them to provide accurate information.

It's like asking Israel to investigate itself.

We need a system design that take into account that admins may be rogue or biased. We should aim to solve this and be better than the billionaire social media where this is intentionally not solved.

@rzeta0 well it *is* mostly solved by the fediverse. The question here is to take it another step and make the default instance less prominent. Or move it to another legal jurisdiction.

The comparison to Israel doesn't make any sense here, clearly.

@amszmidt @andypiper @blueemu @aral

@douwe @amszmidt @andypiper @blueemu @aral

You're confident in your assertion but you're wrong.

Asking women to leave a large but sexist bar is not the solution. "Go to another smaller bar" is not the solution. The problem *is not* mostly solved by the fediverse.

And again, your pronouncing judgement on whether there are parallels to Israel or not are again confident but ridiculous.

Perhaps some self-reflection might be of benefit?

@rzeta0 and your confidence is small and timid? 😄

Yes, I do think that comparing Israel to a small scale social network with discussion about moderation is ridiculous.

Also, woman and sexist bars... interesting comparison, but it misses the point on so many levels...

Let's take time for self-reflection and soul-searching before we make mastodon into another twitter.

Have a good day!
