My response to Mariana Mazzucato’s article in MIT Technology Review titled “Let’s make private data into a public good”
Let’s not.
You cannot base a public good on a normalised systemic violation of human rights.
@aral Good article. I don't know what she means by a 'public repository'. Well, her thoughts do sound weak. It remembers me of the new data-union, founded by a few EU social democrats. They argue that we should be able to sell our data to the giants, so they should pay us. Which is in fact a surrender to the contemporary situation.
@aral Excellent response to a remarkably bad take. And academics even have solutions for creating a data commons of aggregate statistics about people without violating individual privacy, which is where I hoped an article in Technology Review would have gone!
