@aral It reminded me: ``You will vote about Brexit until you bury it''. Democracy in action

Well, yes, these are good reasons to repeat the referendum, but the point of my statement was precisely that supporters of democracy always have good reasons to repeat this (repeat, repeat, ...) until the desired result is obtained.
If democratically adopted decisions are not implemented, then democracy turns into a circus.

> the referendum is the highest purest form of direct democracy.
Purest, maybe. Highest makes assumptions that often don’t bear out in reality. Even if there hadn’t been massive misinformation campaigns, it is still a questionable burden on society to ask them to be policy experts on what exiting means in foreign policy, economically, etc.
“I can barely make rent.” —
“There weren’t enough geopolitical conundrums in the works, so we made one for you!”
I fully agree that the average Joe understands the intricacies of world politics as a pig distinguishes between different kinds of oranges. And it is better to give these questions to professionals. But wouldn't it be more honest then to get the word DEMO out of democracy? To call this form of government the power of the people is somehow cynical.
@yrabbit @hypolite @aral yes, I think it can be argued that the ideal perfect form where one citizen = one vote and the people have the power to make decisions is a failure. We can and should improve civic education and journalism, but it doesn’t appear to be enough.
(I’m not arguing against democracy! Just that parliaments tend to work better than referenda.)
@aral
Same for EU and Constitutionnal treaty
@aral Referendums within the EU that don't go the EU leaders way are also usually following the same principle : You didn't chose the right answer, let us ask you the question again (or let's assume you chose the right answer)!
