Folks: So what browser do you recommend, then?
Me: the post-capitalist one we haven’t built yet.
@aral Ice Weasel?
@aral In my mind: the one I hope Falkon or Gnome web becomes.
In reality: Firefox + extensions I guess, or whatever.
@ScruffyDux @aral Sadly, all Qt browsers — including Falkon — use a not-well-maintained very old version of Chromium and should therefore be avoided.
WebKitGTK, thankfully, is maintained in-tree as part of WebKit. It's really the only non-Firefox, non-Chromium FOSS browser engine to be seriously used for anything.
(And it's finally performing very well in the latest version and also soon getting scroll wheel support fixed to be comparable to other browsers.)
@ScruffyDux @aral (But, yeah, I'm using Firefox plus extensions too. )
@aral maybe Ladybird will become a viable option (BSD licence), it’s showing good progress! https://github.com/SerenityOS/serenity/tree/master/Ladybird
Currently using #LibreWolf:
"LibreWolf is designed to increase protection against tracking and fingerprinting techniques, while also including a few security improvements. This is achieved through our privacy and security oriented settings and patches. LibreWolf also aims to remove all the telemetry, data collection and annoyances, as well as disabling anti-freedom features like DRM."
So, somewhat anti-capitalist, but not "exactly" post-.
Peace!
@aral
Agreed. Mull is by far my favourite on Android. But for desktop use there are currently none that I am truly happy with. I wish I could combine the best elements of Min, Pale Moon and Vivaldi together and have them based upon a truly ethical and community driven foundation.
Does any one have have views on whether the new Servo engine might help with this situation?
@aral yep. There are no good browsers.
@aral
So... Lagrange then

It's literally incompatible with the capitalist web
@TomLarrow @aral please, Tom, tell us more about #geminispace and what you do with it!
@aral In order to create a post-capitalist web browser, we must first exist after capitalism.
@aral waiting for "HTML and JavaScript are the root of all evil! We should use Gopher/Gemini instead!" guy to appear.
@aral so Mozilla wouldn’t qualify?
@aral Or rather, the web is already dead in our light cone.
@aral That’s why capitalism is very carefully optimized so that only those who don’t believe in post-capitalist infrastructure are ever allowed to possess the level of resources that would be adequate to build robust post-capitalist infrastructure.
@aral You’re looking for Lynx.
