“The committee received anonymous accounts from disabled people claiming they had been ‘tricked or tested’ by their assessors.
These included claimants who were made to park further away than necessary from the assessment centre to check how far they could walk, and lifts being placed out of order to force claimants to climb the stairs.”
This is evil. There’s no other word for it. I hope as an atheist that I’m wrong and that these fuckers burn in hell.
@aral ...to save some pittance on the benefits bill, while the government spaffed money on giving their mates contracts.
@aral @jo_the_hat yeah, they tried the 'lift out of order' trick on me. Resulted in me collapsing in a corridor. They had to get first aiders to look after me until I'd recovered enough to speak and sit up. Then I still had to go through the assessment.
I'd guess the criteria for working at the DWP include 'no capacity to feel shame'.
@eleanorrees @jo_the_hat I am so so sorry, Eleanor. It boils my blood. Maybe one or two of them have consciences and can’t sleep well at night. But I wouldn’t bet on it.
@aral agreed. I'd happily admit that I'm wrong, if that were the case
It saddens me when people talk about how easy it is to get benefits and how much the benefits are.
That said people do try and game the system and I think it right there are checks and balances.
My (somewhat) cynical view is that some of the current checks and balances stop the people who _should_ be claiming and dont stop the people who _should not_
@aral +9001%
Thius is just instituionalized ableism.
@aral God, this terrifies me as a person with invisible disabilities who worked myself down to the bone during my thesis... I'm happy I live in a place like Australia where this kind of thing happens way less. Still, what monsters...
@aral I'm Tony from Africa I'm very interested I need a work?
@aral yes but lets not let "these fuckers" go unnamed - social workers, doctors, therapists, and psychiatrists are the ones who will burn in hell for doing this. You shouldn't trust people who do this kind of work any more than you would trust a cop.
