Yes, we fund Matrix dev by selling encrypted messaging to governments, which includes police: if you don’t like that then please feel free to use a different app.

Do you mean you only reject/distrust Element? But not the underlying Matrix protocol? If so, what client would you recommend?
If you also reject/distrust the underlying protocol, what alternative would you propose?
I do feel there is a need for a decentralized, federated encrypted chat network.
