Used to love playing Soko-Ban back in the day (in glorious 4-colour CGA). It has held up remarkably well for a game that’s turning 40 next year :)

You can play it online here:

@aral This is exactly the type of game that benefits most from the 160x100 CGA 16-colour pseudo bitmap mode.

@aral Thank you! For decades, my answer to the question of "What was your first computer game" was always "Something with moving crates", but I never knew the actual game.

@aral Oh, the memories. I probably still have the original (pirated) game somewhere on my disk at home.

@aral I think this might be the first boxed game I remember having when I was a kid! and if I recall, the 5.25" floppy was multiplatform, depending on which side was up.

@rajelaran Oh wow, I don’t remember seeing any multi platform floppies, that’s really neat (we never got original games in Malaysia, even the computer stores only sold pirated ones).

@aral I was googling around to try to find an image of an original floppy to confirm my memory, but no dice so far.
I do remember it saying to flip the disc for other systems on the label though, and even as young as I was I thought that was really cool and nifty.

@gunchleoc Hadn’t heard of it. Will check it out, thanks :)

@aral It's a mix of platformer and puzzle game

@aral Is that, like, the original Super Mario?

I'm born in the GDR, why I've never seen this.

@aral Ah, yes. The exact version I ripped the level data from for mine.

I should finish it.

@aral oh hell yeah, I remember this exact version of Sokoban.

@aral It was one of my first games and CGA was awesome!

@aral I played this for hours many, many years ago...

@aral ooooh I had that with a CGA emulator for the Hercules. Those were the days…

(I’d still take that over the CGA “colour” palette…)

@aral Briliant game! The mechanics are so simple I'm surprised it doesn't have a physical version but the puzzles are endless.

@aral
fun fact: it is still used in neurological rehab facilities today

@aral I had this on a PC that was supposed to drive an expensive medical device ;-)

Admin experiences as a kid :-)

@aral I played it too, but on Hercules monochrome gfx card with a CGA emulator. Along with Elite, Zaxxon, Sopwith, Pacman and Hardhat Mac 👌🏽👾
