To think I was recommending System76 to people. Won’t be making that mistake again.

Apparently caring about accessibility is “virtue signaling” and “concern trolling”.

Well, I know exactly the kind of people who use those terms and they’re not folks I want to have anything to do with or will be recommending to anyone else in the future.

If you’re not in the US, you should buy from a local shop anyway. In the EU, we’re spoilt for choice with Tuxedo, Slimbook, StarLabs, etc.

@adamsandy @purism Well, here’s the irony: Unlike PopOS, which ships with X11 by default, PureOS, afaik, ships with Wayland by default and thus with a broken screen reader by default. So Purism’s computers, tablets, and phones are, by default, are inaccessible for disabled people who use screen readers. And yet, unlike System76, they haven’t tried to publicly shame me for calling out the fact. So best thing to do is to ask their thoughts on this and see how they respond…

Also, IBM/Fedora have been shipping Wayland by default with a broken screen reader for EIGHT YEARS. The former literally has billions of dollars it could have used a tiny percentage of to fix this at any point during that time. Purism is a tiny company struggling to keep its head above water.

In any case, @purism, looking forward to your opinion on all this as well as thoughts about what can be done to improve the situation in the future. (2/2)
