@starlabssystems Hey folks, UPS is trying to charge me tax again for the same amount I paid you in tax + their fees. Can you please sort this out? Package is scheduled for delivery today. Details sent via email. Thanks!

@aral @starlabssystems
Please keep us up to date on this. I would love a starlite, but I'm afraid of all the hidden taxes and fees we now risk.

Buying from the UK is such a gamble.

@seindal @starlabssystems Didn’t have any trouble with the Starlite itself, oddly, but this is for the keyboard and pen.

Basically, was charged €28.06 taxes on €122 order by StarLabs and then got a message from UPS saying that I owe them €48.72 taxes (€28.06 + 16.80 brokerage charges + 3.86 VAT). As far as I can see, the only thing I should have to pay is perhaps the €3.86 VAT.) But clearly the €28.06 is a double charge.

€76.78 taxes on €122 order is ridiculous.

@aral @starlabssystems
This is exactly what I fear. Eight hundred euros is already expensive for me, and if I then get charged four hundred plus by customs, I can't afford it.

@seindal @aral Hi René, we have already paid the taxes due on our shipments, I have been told the issue is someone at the courier not reading our invoice saying that taxes have been paid. I was told by Sean that you MUST NOT PAY THE TAXES, because you will basically never get that back from the gov. I hope this has cleared this up. This is the first time I have encountered this since joining and it's unacceptable. I am looking at options to make sure this doesn't happen anymore.

@starlabssystems @seindal (And yeah, it didn’t happen with the StarLite that arrived about a month ago so it’s definitely not consistent. This feels very much like a UPS screwup in their favour. The cynical me wonders if some bean counter at UPS concluded that if they do this on X% of orders they’ll make €Y profit and only lose an acceptable N number of customers.)

@aral @seindal I love this haha, should we beat them at their game and stop paying the taxes???

@starlabssystems @seindal I don’t think anyone beats hundred-billion-dollar corporations at their own game. The best we can hope for is to regulate the absolute crap out of them. (Also easier said than done given lobbying and revolving doors.) :)
