“you are potentially causing more harm than good with your ‘unapologetic anti-genocide’ ridiculousness”
A real thing some USian liberal just said to me.
I have no words.
@aral how would they describe these images then, exactly? These people are the ridiculous ones. https://www.bellingcat.com/news/2024/08/27/satellite-imagery-shows-vast-destruction-in-rafah/
@aral and that's only one dimensions - genocide includes shutting off/poisoning water supplies, forced encampments, etc.
@aral the only reason it might cause more harm than good is due to liberal stonewalling of it doing any good.
I can only assume they didn't study history at school.
@aral
I've been biting my tongue for fear of appearing centrist on this issue.
Here's what gets me:
It is possible to accept that yes, Trump would be worse for Gaza, yes it is a two party system so on voting day it's best to hold your nose and vote Harris..... AND to understand that voting is sometimes less important than street power, and that pressure before the election is worth much more than after, so we have to hold their feet to the fire NOW.
@jaystephens I wouldn’t worry. I’ve seen my share of centrist takes on this subject; yours is downright radical in comparison.
@jaystephens @aral Don't really see how that would be considered centrist. In my experience centrists would rather say "we need to not criticise Harris now because every criticism of her is making it more likely that Trump wins, so let's get her elected and only then you can start pressuring her."
Also I don't think centrists would ever acknowledge there is more power in the streets than in voting.
@jaystephens @aral agreed, the more pressure we put on before the election the more likely Harris would be to change positions. But afterward will be hard, whoever is in office.
@aral MFer said "ridiculous anti-genocide" . . . ?
@BetaCuck4Lyfe @aral quite the democratic attitude as opposed to say "my preferred candidate is potentially causing more harm than good by enabling a genocide"
@BetaCuck4Lyfe Motherfucker did rather, yes.
@aral I wish I wasn't so often struck dumb by this shit, considering how loquaciusness is my stress response
@BetaCuck4Lyfe @aral
80% of awful stupidity is because people don’t know what words mean.
Only 20% is because they do know what words mean
@aral if being against genocide is "causing harm"...
I mean, holy shit. I can't fathom the mind that can formulate that thought.
@aral@mastodon.ar.al
Don't call me white American?
I really don't want to be associated with these f*ckers...
