So DuckDuckGo’s “news” items all look like they’re from different publications but go through MSN.
Because, of course, DuckDuckGo is just another venture capital funded Silicon Valley tech company.
The reason you can’t have nice things is capitalism.
@aral capitalist will say exactly the opposite , are you against any form of capitalism?
@ErikJonker I’m against the only form of capitalism I’ve known in my lifetime: the one that’s destroying the planet to ensure the survival of roughly two thousand billionaires. The one that’s the socioeconomic version of cancer.
@aral @ErikJonker and it isn't just the only form capitalism does take, it's the only form that capitalism can take.
@Outpatientzero @aral …if your target is the whole of capitalism without any specification what is OK and what’s not, every struggle against it will be futile. People want to earn money, entrepreneurs want to make profit, for a few thousand years already.
@ErikJonker @aral capitalism has only existed for a few centuries.
@Outpatientzero @aral wages for labour were paid thousands of years ago, profits were made in babylon. Or worse people were slaves.
@ErikJonker @Outpatientzero @aral
"Wage labor and profit motives have always existed, therefore they are good and should continue to exist" is a horrible and lazy argument for wage labor and profit motives. Something could have always existed and can still end up being bad because existence isn't static. Things change. Wage labor and profit motives, particularly in their current iteration of capitalism, are a hindrance to the working class and all of humanity in general.
@Radical_EgoCom @ErikJonker @Outpatientzero @aral
“Cancer and deseases have always existed; therefore, they are good and should continue to exist.” Yeah… I don’t think so.
@Radical_EgoCom @ErikJonker @aral the existence of wages or markets does not equal the existence of capitalism. Capitalism doesn't exist except where the investment of capital primarily to generate more capital via the relationship between capitalist and wage labourer is the dominant form of economic production.
For thousands of years, humans lived without capital or capitalism, and we can - indeed must - again. Else capitalism will destroy humanity due to its impact on the Earth's climate.
@ErikJonker @Outpatientzero @aral And nothing of it was called Capitalism. Not in Babylon, not in Rome.
just earning money is not capitalism.
@TheOneSwit @Outpatientzero @aral what is your definition of capitalism? It matters because some people call the whole system of markets, companies, people earning wages, buyers/sellers etc. capitalism? Example of a definition "an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit."
@ErikJonker @Outpatientzero @aral
The problem you ask for is that in capitalism the ultimate goal is profit no matter what. It's not about a good live for the people it's about "winning"
We can talk about a social market economy instead as exampel.
@ErikJonker @TheOneSwit@det.social @aral capitalism has only existed since the 18th century, prior to that there were other dominant forms of social relationships of production (ie serfdom, slavery, etc.). Capitalism is characterized by the dominant form of social relationships of production being characterized by the relationship between labourers (who have only their labour to sell for wages) and capitalists (who own the means of production and who invest capital primarily to generate more capital).
@ErikJonker @TheOneSwit @Outpatientzero @aral It would be better to speak about "a restricted social class" than "private owners". If we remember well, Lenine was clear (after 1917) that what he contributed to start to built was "State's capitalism" not socialism (but he thought that it would at the end leads to socialism and in a faster way).
@ErikJonker @aral if you don't get the difference between the existence of a mechanism (ie wages) and a social system (capital), then you are too dim to have a conversation with, sorry.
