@aral@ar.al Give Zelenskyy his due. The guy came over to meet Trump and Trump was clearly under the impression that Zelenskyy was going to roll over and sign over Ukraine's mineral rights. Zelenskyy says "nope" and The Donald, "who knows how to make deals" freaks out. I doubt that Zelenskyy will sign any deal with Trump until there is peace in Ukraine. Why would he? No one in their right mind would trust Trump to live up to his side of the bargain.

@aral @KimPerales This fucking shitshow, look at EU leadership. German politicians didn’t even get the hint after Vance farted in their face in Munich.

@martinjuhasz @aral @KimPerales you don’t think so? Starmer, Macron, and Merz at least seem pretty serious about rearming and get out from America’s thumb, but they do have to play for time. Of course, Europe probably should have taken this more seriously eight years ago.

@john @aral @KimPerales yeah, it‘s far too late. I can’t speak for other EU countries as i’m not that deep into their politics. For germany, they are feathers in the wind. Merz went basically from "Trump is my buddy" to "We need to take a hard stance" to "ignore everything, the german left is far worse"

@john @aral @KimPerales also i was a little mad just watching this. ofc there are politicians in EU that still have their head together.

@martinjuhasz @aral @KimPerales I can’t even watch it, it’s so disgusting.

@john @martinjuhasz @aral @KimPerales
I got so upset watching the Washington Weasles ripping into Ukrainian President Zelensky's flesh that I started shaking in anger.
I urged my wife to not even watch the video.
The second Trump regime is even worse than the first. These criminals are despicable.

@KimPerales@toad.social @aral @martinjuhasz time for the whole world to isolate the USA. They do not have the moral standing to be the center of the world and haven’t for a very long time.

@alpinefolk @aral not sure if that helps. USA is strong enough to force their way into world politics.

It really needs a change from within. I can’t believe the majority of US citizens feels like these two duchebags. They need to make their voice heard. Get on the streets!

@martinjuhasz @aral oh I agree it’s not a silver bullet. But even a gradual withdrawal from the USA will have an impact. Yes they are big and strong but they are also dependent on the test of the world and they need to be reminded of that fact.
The Us has shown itself to be an untrustworthy ally even under the democrats.

@martinjuhasz @alpinefolk @aral He wasn't elected by a majority. He got less than 50% of the vote. A bunch of voters, who IMHO had their heads up their asses, didn't bother to vote or made a "protest vote" for a third party candidate. Right now, I'm ashamed to admit I'm an American. If I could speak directly to President Zelenskyy, I would apologize profusely for what he was put through. He's the much better leader and man than the bullies he had to deal with.

@martinjuhasz @aral @KimPerales I think they are somewhat prepared and will respond in style, but this will be a slow European process. We'll have to wait and see whether the response is effective but at least the direct countermeasures, such as for tariffs will be.

@aral
This shows difference between having a country and a clown or by a comedian.

@aral i have no words. Definetly the wrong timeline we are all in

@aral

Yay for Zalenski! I knew he could see through that POS!

@aral For those who watched, please describe what Zelensky did to hold his own. I so want this to be true.

@sstrader You can still watch it.

@aral Having worked in the diplomatic service in the UK I have seen heated exchanges behind the scenes but in not in front of the media, at least not to this extent. It’s unforgivable.

The Trump administration has just shown themselves to be divisive bullies, again. Trump has lost the plot and those around him are mirroring his disgusting behaviour because they are weak pathetic humans. Tax payers and the world deserve better.

@stevendrowe @aral we can be ashamed of what we're seeing, but I must say this is exactly what taxpayers voted and thus, what they deserve. Final responsibility falls to voters.

@stevendrowe @aral I think Zelensky got set up and they planned this as part of a bigger game. We're only two months in but it feels like years

@coopdot @aral I have no doubt that this was a set up. I just see Trump as a bloated nappy wearing sexual abuser, convicted criminal and Russian asset attempting, but failing, to humiliate a leader, Zelensky, on the front line of protecting democracy against a brutal dictator, Putin, whose forces have destroyed cities, murdered many people and raped women.

@stevendrowe @aral
They aren't bullies. You're framing it the wrong way.

They were bending the knee to Putin and showing subservience.

Concentrate on talking about how weak Trump looked. If you frame it as bullying, Trump voters will see that as "Trump strong."

@tofugolem @aral I base my reasoning according to my experience and my friend having some prior contact with Trump.

However, my opinion, I'm sure doesn't matter. On Mastodon people are preaching to the converted but what are US citizens going to do about this sorry situation?

@stevendrowe @aral
Oh, I'm not saying your observation isn't valid; I'm just saying that you should mind the framing.

If you say Trump was being a bully, Republicans will see that as further evidence of how impressive Trump is. If you call Trump weak for bowing to Russia, it will get under their skin and interfere with the "narratives" in their heads.

@aral most of us hate this… republicans purged something like 4mil voters from swing states before the election. Republicans cheat and do every dirty trick in the book and they only squeaked it. More people voted for someone OTHER than Trump. But a good half of our population doesn’t even vote. I’m an embarrassed American right now. Please Europe, don’t give him one inch.

@aral I am a citizen of the USA. I served at combat arms for 23 years. I am 73 years old and have never been ashamed of the President of the country, even those I disagreed with. I am ashamed of Trump. He is without honor, class, manners, integrity, intelligence, or perception. I only hope I live long enough to see him replaced. I would say in disgrace, but he already took care of that.

@wpeckham @aral
Dear sir I am a 84 yr old European and I am determined to outlive this un -American barbarian #POTUS. It is high time some civilisation (no school shootings, police brutality, favouratism of the rich, etc) will return to our American counterparts.
