“Mozilla doesn’t sell data about you (in the way that most people think about ‘selling data’)”
– Mozilla
;) ;)
(At least Mark Zuckerberg had the good grace to call us “dumb fucks” to our faces.)

@aral I'm feeling so disillusioned and disappointed with ProtonMail and Mozilla
At least when I reluctantly recommend Google, I can list all their major sins and downsides, and there's no egg on my face when friends are bitten later
But I won't be recommending ProtonMail or Mozilla anymore, and I'm already working to migrate away from their offerings immediately
@jokeyrhyme @aral That's good idea.
I used to consume all services they offered but starting from a few weeks ago now I don't use any of their products, except the Proton mail (for now).
@aral I read it, but I dont understand it.
So they still sell my data to ad companies and show me ads (e.g. in new tabs), which they didn't do before, right? Can I opt out, or do I need to ditch anything Firefox related?
Anyone knows if firefox based browsers such as Zen Browser are also affected by this?
@aral found this video that explains the changes. Will watch it later, I think that explains it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W1kE3qA8FcA&t=10s&pp=2AEKkAIB
Still not sure about Zen Browser though
@aral I’ve been dragging my heels in switching from Firefox to LibreWolf (since I’m lazy) but I guess I really should just do it already and be done with it.
@aral here's an update about all this: https://blog.mozilla.org/en/products/firefox/update-on-terms-of-use/
@julienw Yes, that’s where the quote is from.
@aral @julienw « LEGAL definition of “sale of data” is broad and evolving. As an ex. [CCPA] defines “sale” as the “selling, renting, releasing, disclosing, disseminating, making available, transferring, or otherwise communicating orally, in writing, or by electronic or other means, a consumer’s personal information by [a] business to another business or a third party” in exchange for “monetary” or “other valuable consideration.” »
That's a pretty good definition of the "sale" I don't want.
@aral "We're not selling your data, you dumb fuck. Here's what we do instead"
* Proceeds to explain that, indeed, they do sell your data *
@aral They - Mozilla stuff same as the Mastodon ones - forget about one most important thing which is: their internal rules or some shitty TOS, no matter what, aren't the laws and therefore can't stand above the laws nor violate them. All those papa-lapap fancy things otherwise called bullshit, are under the law letter. So.. People are able to opt-out and still have the right to use such services as they were before the changes. They can even successfully sue such company, managers, ceo's etc.
