Update: I’m apparently not.

Sounds like I’m shadow-banned on mastodon.social too.
So there’s that.

So apparently I’m not shadow-banned on mastodon.social … thanks to @babe and @stephanie for checking.
Still, this show limiting/shadow banning thing is a problem. Block people if you want to but don’t gaslight them.
I really need to write something about why having mega instances on the fediverse is a problem that’s longer than a toot.
Probably a good time for a post on the subject given I now have about the same number of people following me here as I did when I closed my Twitter account.
(It took close to eight years to get there.)
@aral I'd read that!
There's a difference between just putting some stuff out there and engaging and posting for an audience. Mastodon is great for the first, especially for niche interests. Not so great to build a large audience.
I think it of as tv shows that reach the 18-35 audience as having small numbers but important ones to advertisers as opposed to a lowest common denominator to try and reach everyone.
But the fediverse isn't what's important to everyone, but to different segments of society.
@aral Technically I could probably run my own instance, but there’s no way I want to deal with the legal exposure, especially given what was argued at SCOTUS yesterday.
@aral @babe @stephanie how does one determine whether they are shadow banned or... ?
@aral
I’ve noticed that blocks are most commonly used to secure some asshole a “last word” so they can do a hit-and-run drive-by post. The #Mastodon tooling is designed so that no matter what misinfo they push, you can’t even correct it for /other people/ who read the thread.
This is a deliberate #MastodonBug. There is a bug report covering it. Lengthy debates, etc.
