Per capire bene cosa è Facebook, dovremmo sforzarci di guardarlo con gli occhi di chi ha visto il proprio padre linciato a seguito di minacce di morte complete di indirizzo ripetutamente condivise e lasciate libere di circolare sulla piattaforma, e non può più tornare nel proprio paese perché rischia di fare la stessa fine.
Finished Careless People last night. It’s a really compelling read, continually surprising and horrifying. The author is certainly complicit by her involvement and naïveté, but at least she gave us this view from the inside. Definitely recommend.

I finally managed to delete my FB account. The last straw came yesterday when my niece saw an account set up in the name of her deceased brother come up as someone "you might know." She reported it and got the response that the obviously fake account would not be taken down because, while it "might be upsetting," it didn't violate community standards. FB is irredeemable garbage. #DeleteFacebook

Wenn ich nichts vergessen habe bin ich privat nun komplett #USAunabhängig 
@tedcurran I have always used Facebook to talk to my IRL connections vs. Twitter to talk with the wider public and interesting strangers. Great to know that #Mastodon lets you consciously limit posts to your "followers-only", so as long as you curate who you let follow you, you have reasonable control over your #privacy. "Unlisted" and "mentioned-only" give you even more fine grain control.
Anyone trying to #deletefacebook could recreate that cozy campfire feeling with just friends.

Last night we caught John Oliver’s brutal takedown of Meta and Zucky. If you haven’t seen it, it’s on YouTube; a great 30-minute watch, with some great zingers, like “lil broccoli.”
John Oliver quotes @Mastodon, @pixelfed and @signalapp while reporting on the massive exodus from meta and instagram.
He said "Google searches for how to cancel and delete Facebook, Instagram and Threads accounts increased by over 5000%".

I deactivated my Facebook account in 2017 and never logged back in, but never fully deleted it. I had Instagram but never logged in or used it. Today, I've fully deleted Instagram and once my archive is downloaded, I'm fully deleting the Facebook account, too. No Facebook, No Messenger, No Instagram, No WhatsApp. No Meta.
In response to a Reddit post asking for #Fediverse alternatives to #Facebook that AREN'T Friendica or Pleroma: I just discovered [socialhome](https://socialhome.network/) that is federated with #ActivityPub so you can see #Mastodon and #Pixelfed and #Lemmy content in a more attractive display. It's still not the same as Facebook - I don't know if anything will ever be polished enough for the normies to switch.
