Strypey<p>More than a decade ago, I noticed software freedom activists talking about "Restricted Boot". How it was going to restrict the use of GNU/Linux in place of OEM Windows on cheap laptops.</p><p>Especially the strategy of "dual-booting", where GNU/Linux is installed alongside the existing OS. So people can switch back and forth while they get comfortable with the new OS.</p><p>Can confirm. Working around EFI system partitions is a royal PITA.</p><p>(1/?)</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/SoftwareFreedom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoftwareFreedom</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/GNULinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GNULinux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/RestrictedBoot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RestrictedBoot</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/tags/UEFI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UEFI</span></a></p>

Besides, <a href="https://ecodigital.social/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> misses this and other points, as explained in <a href="https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">gnu.org/philosophy/open-source</span><span class="invisible">-misses-the-point.html</span></a> and <a href="https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-open-overlap.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">gnu.org/philosophy/free-open-o</span><span class="invisible">verlap.html</span></a> .
