“I have to say that as a Jewish Israeli who is a left-wing activist, I feel unsafe and unwelcome in Berlin.”
– Yuval Abraham
… alt-text (transcript) continued here due to reaching alt-text character limit:
Right now, the military is admitting it. It's very clear. It's broadcasted live, you know, hundreds of people are being killed every day. And to hear you use the death of my own family to legitimize this and to accuse me of antisemitism, us who are standing nonviolently fighting for justice for both people.
(1/2)
The Israeli, the Palestinian people … who are speaking about the roots of the violence, who are speaking about Israel's military occupation.
I'm in tears right now because they think it's so [undecipherable] and so wrong and so unjust and history is knocking on Germany's door again and you are failing.
You are failing once again.
(2/2)
@aral failing at organizing humanitarian rallys for victims of war and colonial terror. The state is doing everything to keep the order what's the price for that tho? Media failure, Imprisonment and unjust police force. It's really a joke...People are not with people.
@aral (genuine question) why are you writing the stuttering/reduplication in the alt text? it makes it a lot harder for me to read and follow what is being said and i dont see the benefit of it
@stella Sorry, I didn’t have too much time to edit the automatic transcript.
(Thanks for raising the issue, by the way. I’m not sure which is better: to provide as close a representation as possible or to edit for ease of consumption. The linguistic patterns portray the emotion that you wouldn’t otherwise hear. Not sure if editing it would be paternalistic or not. Would love to hear the thoughts of more folks who use assistive technologies on this.)
@aral ah, it was an automatic transcript, that explains it :3
for me its definitely better to make the text clean and readable, because the repetitions are one of the reasons why i went to the alt text in the first place, because they contribute to the speech being hard to follow for me
i guess the emotion could be indicated separately with text? like saying "he frequently paused and repeats words which shows that he is emotional" or whatever at the start of the transcript
@stella Right, that makes sense. Updated, thank you :)
@aral Interestingly, Germany is Israel's second biggest arms supplier...
@MaxG Alt text: pie chart: Who supplies the most arms to Israel? % of total weapons sold to Israel by its major suppliers
Italy: 4.7%
Germany: 29.7%
US: 65.6%
Source: SIPRI, estimated volume of major arms transfers, 2013-2023 BBC
@MaxG Yep, funny that. Almost like they have an economic incentive to keep the genocide going or something.
@aral I see it this way. Israel is doing to Palestinians what Nazi Germany did to Jews. And some Germans probably feel... nostalgic???
@aral @MaxG so the US is now the leader of the Axis nations for World War 3.
Incidentally, I’ll bet if you included nations who supply tech to these weapons manufacturers, but do not manufacture weapons directly, I would bet Japan would probably be a larger piece of the pie on this chart, although there are so many nations that supply tech to the war machine, maybe not.
@ramin_hal9001 @aral Four years to go. Be prepared for anything!
