@aral unrelated side note but the fact that the cops need to wear masks is insane.

If you were a mobster in the US now, you could kidnap anyone these days and nobody would ever know what happened. Why is that situation being normalized is beyond me.

The entire "don't trust the government, don't trust the police" sentiment is just so pervasive in the US and I really don't get it. I know that the police has corrupt people in most places, but in Croatia or Germany, for all their faults, if I was in trouble I would be looking forward to see a cop, not taking out my camera and recording them, "just in case".

But in the US, everybody just gets a gun and acts as their own cop. That's madness, no wonder they have the worse crime rates then most of the world.

And the suckiest part of it is that, like some other cultural, societal, administrative etc norms, we seem to be importing this one as well. And not charging any tarriffs on it, too.

A lot of the European countries had a vastly better health system. But in most of the countries, it is, or is getting, privatised. Same with other social safety nets. We're also importing or have imported this sentiment that we're on our own, and government is the enemy. And especially for people of disagreeing opinions. I mean I get that with someone directly opposing your idea - but we're now disagreeing with people on everything if they don't match our behavior on everything. Europe used to be (by necessity if not by virtue) more inclusive than that.

I wish people had the time to be a bit more critical of themselves.
