@jmaris Let’s not rewrite history. The EU did not fund Mastodon. Eugen did. The EU is now funding Mastodon *after* one person made it what it is.
And that’s the exact issue with EU funding I was talking in my speech at the parliament however many years ago. Nothing’s changed.
Our efforts are also entirely self/community-funded (not for lack of trying). Once the Small Web is out & sustainable, I assume some FOMO will kick in and they might fund a feature or two.
@jmaris (But I won’t be holding my breath. Nor will we be dependent on it. Learned not to depend on the shifting winds of politically-backed funding a while ago.)
