I genuinely think that a student used ChatGPT for a poem they turned in. I have absolutely no way to prove it.
Well, I could go to them and ask them to write a version of it in my presence. Sigh. Do I care so much to risk insulting my student like that. My suspicions arose when they could not pronounce one of the words they used while reading it aloud in class.
@rjblaskiewicz Is English their first language? It might be that they’ve only ever read the word on a page and never heard it spoken out loud. I know I’ve had that happen to me.

It is their first language. Usually I ask students to do their assignments in Google docs, because the entire history of the document's development is preserved. If a huge chunk of text is dropped in in less than 10 seconds or if they are making little changes to make stolen text harder to find, it's all documented This children's book assignment, however, was Google slides, which seems not to archive drafts. This is on me.
