Found this question about Fast Times At Ridgemont High from someone of a different generation:

> Were high schoolers in the 80s really allowed to just go and do whatever they want with no parental supervision whatsoever? I don't even think there were any parents in this movie. Were teachers really allowed to just be a jerk and humiliate students in their class and just show up to a students house unannounced? Doubt it

While my teenage years were over a decade later and in another country I think the movie does reflect the lack of parental supervision that I remember.

I don't know of a teacher showing up at a student's house but I kind of assume that sort of stuff happened. Many teachers were jerks.

Yesterday now (November 4) was the 36th anniversary of the release of one of my favorite flicks of all time, They Live, in 1988. It's okay that I missed the date, because I've definitely blathered on about it here before, since I find this one to be beyond a masterpiece -- an ultimate rewatcher. And it might be time for yet another rewatch.

I just watched Killer Klowns From Outer Space for the first time since it came out. When I was 15 or 16, I thought it was really scary. And nauseating. And yes, those clowns are still creepy as fuck, but this time I found it more entertaining. When the heroes find all the bodies in cotton candy, what does it mean that my first thought was how Will Graham from Hannibal would relive the scene? This is my design.... #80sHorror #80sMovies #KillerKlowns #movies #HorrorComedy #WillGraham #Hannibal #Fannibal #HorrorMovies

Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop (1987), a dystopian cyberpunk scifi thriller with some interesting emotional nuance and some black comedy. And done with old school special effects. A dystopian future that now seems disturbingly prescient. Great movie.
