~Entire Fulbright board quits, blaming Trump admin interference~

~”The #Trump admin unlawfully ‘usurped the (board’s) authority’ by denying awards (because of research topics the admin didn’t like) to a ‘substantial number’ who had already been selected for the 2025-2026 academic year through a yearlong, merit-based process.”

The State Dept. could also reject 1,200 #Fulbright more recipients through an "unauthorized review process.”

USA TODAY · Entire Fulbright board quits, blaming Trump administration interferenceBy Ryan Patrick Jones, USA TODAY

"National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya faced questions from senators during an Appropriations subcommittee hearing Tuesday, as the federal government agency has taken hits to its staffing levels and grant-making ability since under President Trump.

Senators focused on the Trump administration’s requested 2026 budget, which calls for cutting NIH’s funding by $18 billion from 2025 levels."

"US President Donald Trump has intensified the MAGA assault on science by seeking to impose ‘Stalinist’ oversight on government-funded research. A new executive order (EO) empowers political appointees to validate research outcomes, overriding independent expert review."

"Everything points to an effort to effectively destroy U.S. science — not gradually as part of a long-term plan, but over the next year or two. ...

Science has this awkward tendency to tell you things you didn’t want to know and give you answers you didn’t want. The Trump administration may pretend to want better science, but at a fundamental level MAGA dislikes and distrusts the very idea of science."

Funny how the conclusions drawn from these reports never include "Oh, the problem is capitalism."

"Roughly 40 percent of respondents cited economic barriers – such as the costs of raising children, job insecurity and expensive housing – as the main reason for having fewer children"

“Governments may need to tax working people more or take on more debt...” [professor of social statistics and demography] Wisniowski noted."
